reViSiT - then called "VSTrack" - was developed
for an M.Phil. Thesis in Music and Media Technologies, at
the Trinity College, Dublin. The thesis attempts to tackle the
question of man, machine and music - with focus on the keyboard
as input device, the tracker as interface model. It includes a
critical look at the music software interfaces of the past and
present - such as the sequencer, the mouse and MIDI - and also
takes a more detailed look at some specific examples (and comparisons):
comprising the MIDI sampler, the Cubase sequencer, and
both Impulse Tracker and Renoise.
Althought the original is kept in Trinity Library,
an electronic version (in Adobe Acrobat format) is
provided here for you to peruse. All comments are welcome -
feel free to
post them on the forum, or email me them directly. However,
note that implementation details may
have changed since the time of the project. Note also
that Appendix B (the source code) are omitted from this
publication.
